Preclinical Imaging

PIRL’s advanced imaging facilities service the needs of grant-funded researchers, industry, commercial and veterinary clients.

The Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF) is part of the National Imaging Facility (NIF).

LARIF provides state-of-the-art imaging of large animals for the Australian research community under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) scheme. NIF Fellows are available to assist in protocol development, execution of imaging, post-processing and analysis of imaging data.

Instrumentation and expertise is available for an array of large animal imaging with apparatus including:

  • 3T MRI
  • CT/PET
  • Fluoroscopy and surgical suite
  • Plain film radiography and C-Arms
  • Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry unit
  • Lung ventilation scanners (small and large animal)

LARIF works closely with MITRU, SAHMRI’s cyclotron facility, Bioresources, SAHMRI’s small animal specific pathogen free facility, and CRIC, SAHMRI and Jones Radiology’s human clinical research centre.
