Imagine... the end of chronic pain

Help SAHMRI’s researchers work to end pain for millions of Australians

Imagine... the end of chronic pain

Join Professor Stuart Brierley and his team as they solve the mysteries of chronic abdominal and pelvic pain.

Up to 20% of the population suffer in silence from chronic visceral pain conditions such as IBS, endometriosis and inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn’s disease.

That’s one in five people – likely someone you know, or maybe even yourself.

SAHMRI researchers have dedicated 25 years to finding solutions to the causes of chronic abdominal and pelvic pain.

We’re working with the best minds around the world, including two Nobel Prize winners, to look at how spider venom can quieten pain fibres in the gut. We know that spider venom can perform a range of actions – from killing prey to incapacitating, paralysing or blocking nerve fibres – and we’re now using millions of years of evolution to our advantage.

We’ve also discovered a therapy for one of the four kinds of IBS, a peptide that can be delivered directly to the bowel through a daily pill, switching off pain at its source.

If this is what the team has already achieved, imagine what is possible with your support.
