Horsepower fans gift ‘workhorse’ for SAHMRI lab research

The annual Classics at Hart event, organised by the Festival of Motorcycling SA (FOMsa), has raised $12,000 for SAHMRI to purchase a microplate reader.

SAHMRI’s Head of Philanthropy and Strategic Engagement Hazel Jourdin thanked FOMsa for the group’s ongoing support.

“A microplate reader really is a ‘workhorse’ of laboratory science,” she said.

“It is a fundamental piece of equipment which is used across SAHMRI’s broad research activities, measuring chemical, biological or physical reactions, properties and analytes within the well of a microplate.”

The Classics at Hart is one of several events organised by FOMsa each year. It is a static display in the iconic Hart’s Mill precinct at Port Adelaide that celebrates 100 years of motorcycling in our state.

FOMsa President Lew Hylton says exhibitors and visitors are encouraged to make a donation to the FOMsa / SAHMRI Medical Research Equipment Fund.

“SAHMRI and FOMsa members share a love of unique machines and appreciate the need to care for and maintain them,” he said.

“Previously, we’ve supported individual PhD students at SAHMRI, but the beauty of our gift this year is that the equipment it funds will benefit PhD students and other researchers right across the institute.”

SAHMRI warmly thanks FOMsa and its donors for their support of the institute’s mission to create healthier futures for people across our state and beyond.
