About MITRU
The Molecular Imaging and Therapy Research Unit (MITRU) is a TGA-licensed manufacturer of radiopharmaceuticals, supplying hospitals and imaging centres across Australia. As the home of South Australia's only cyclotron, MITRU produces a range of radiopharmaceuticals to support routine clinical use and clinical trials. MITRU is also active in novel radiopharmaceutical research and development projects through academic and commercial collaboration.
About the role
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity within MITRU for a Radiopharmaceutical Scientist Registrar. In the role, you will work closely with a team of experienced scientists to manufacture radiopharmaceuticals for clinical and research use, in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP). You will gain the hands-on experience required to complete the ACPSEM Radiopharmaceutical Science Training, Education and Assessment Program (RPS TEAP), and gain your certification as a Radiopharmaceutical Scientist Specialist.
Key responsibilities include
- Meeting training milestones according to MITRU’s training plan and the RPS TEAP Curriculum.
- Manufacture radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with MITRU documented procedures.
- Engage in translational research and development of novel radiopharmaceuticals.
- Develop a working knowledge and understanding of of cGMP, TGA regulations and relevant legislative frameworks including:
- Therapeutic Goods Act
- Radiation Protection and Control Act
- Radiation (Ionising Radiation) Regulations
- EPA licensing requirements
- Complete directed study, report writing and documentation in line with RPS TEAP requirements
- Submit internal progress reports for feedback and external submission.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- A post graduate qualification (Masters or PhD) in an approved chemistry, pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences (required for enrolment in RPS TEAP). Applicants who have already obtained these qualifications will be considered favorably.
- Advanced-level knowledge of chemistry or pharmaceutical science and experience in research
- Practical synthetic chemistry skills and techniques
- Experience and knowledge in the use of standard analytical laboratory equipment including liquid, gas and thin-layer chromatography systems
- Understanding of chemical waste management and risk assessments
- Advanced level of scientific communication skills through report writing and oral presentations.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of GMP and experience working in a TGA regulated environment.
- Experience in pharmaceutical aseptic processing in a clean room environment.
- Current or previous holder of a licence to use or handle radioactive material.
- Knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA), the Radiation Protection and Control Act (1982) and the Radiation and Control (Ionising Radiation) Regulations (2000).
Special Requirements
- Some out of hours’ work will be required. Significant portions of the training program will involve early morning starts to meet manufacturing timelines and customer delivery requirements.
- Successful individual will be expected to attain an SA Government EPA License to Use and Handle Radioactive Material in a timely manner. SAHMRI will provide learning support to achieve this goal.
- DCSI Employment Screening may be required.
- This position requires a pre-employment medical examination to determine suitability for the physical requirements of the role.
