SAHMRI's research into Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes
Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes

Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions that take place in the body, converting food – nutrition – to the energy that is needed to function and maintain health.

SAHMRI is home to research groups that investigate a broad spectrum of conditions that have long been known to be influenced by nutrition including obesity, type 2 diabetes and gut disorders. The institute also researches conditions that have relatively recently been linked to diet and metabolism such as dementia and neurological diseases. The Health Policy Centre at SAHMRI undertakes research that impacts public health in areas including sugar-sweetened beverages and health star ratings.
