The SAHMRI Community extends our deepest sympathies to the family of Gabrielle Kelly AM, who passed away last Tuesday, July 23 at the age of 71, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Gabe was the driving force behind the establishment of the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre in 2014, one of her many achievements in a life of work dedicated to the betterment of society.

During her five-year tenure at SAHMRI, Gabe’s vision was to build a healthier, more resilient community, utilising evidence-based research to build training programs that help people build wellbeing.

Gabe’s legacy is not confined to SAHMRI and earned her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2022.

She was a pioneer at the forefront of addressing global challenges with innovative and forward-thinking solutions. She worked with many industries to strengthen the capacity for change and build a vision for the future. This included her exploits as an award-winning documentary filmmaker for the BBC, where she used her storytelling prowess to shine a light on the need for environmental action. Her documentaries, Prophets and Loss and Greenbucks are testaments to her unwavering commitment to climate advocacy.

Gabe also ran South Australia’s ‘Thinkers in Residence’ program, seeking to boost societal health through a diverse range of programs, building on Adelaide's our state’s reputation for social innovation.
