Emerging research leader recognised by AAHMS

ROSA’s Associate Director, Professor Gill Caughey, has been recognised as one of our nation’s outstanding emerging research leaders through admission to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences’ (AAHMS) esteemed Mentorship Program.

Prof Caughey is a pharmacoepidemiologist specialising in the care and health outcomes of the older population, specifically within the aged care sector, with a strong focus on population health surveillance to monitor quality of care and medicines safety.

Prof Caughey has now been named an Associate Member of the Academy and will be mentored over the next three years by one of its Fellows. Read more about this honour here.

“I applied for the AAHMS program to connect with accomplished members of the Academy with similar backgrounds, to provide guidance regarding strategies for health and medical research and policy in Australia to improve the wellbeing of our older population,” Prof Caughey said.

“I’m hoping to expand my successful research translation and communication to further meaningful change of practice and policy. The outcomes from this mentorship will increase the impact of my work and help to develop leadership and our next generation of scientists in Australia.”

Prof Caughey’s research has led to significant changes in national health policies and practices to improve the quality of care for our older population. Recent highlights include providing evidence and expertise to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety (2018-21) and subsequent Federal Government (2021-22) Department of Health and Aged Care Reforms to improve the health and wellbeing of Australia’s aged care population.
