BRIGHT Walk shines on wintry night

More than 1800 SAHMRI supporters braved a drizzly start to make Saturday night’s 2023 BRIGHT Walk a rousing success.

The annual 15km night walk – raising money to help SAHMRI cure disease and save lives – took participants past the most spectacular sights of this year’s Illuminate Adelaide festival plus a host of other dazzling BRIGHT-specific installations.

The walkers were nourished along the way thanks to the National Wine Centre, the Migration Museum, Haigh's Chocolates, The Carob Kitchen and a SAHMRI sausage sizzle; and were entertained with music from No Two Ways, The Royal Australian Navy Band, The Australian Army Band, Radio Italia and SAHMRI’s own Minestrone of Sound.

Almost 5000 people sponsored BRIGHT Walkers, with almost $400,000 raised to date and contributions still rolling in.

The majority of the funds raised will support SAHMRI’s early- and mid-career researchers to establish their careers in the highly competitive medical research sector, including a $100,000 project grant that will be awarded to the yet-to-be-named 2024 SAHMRI BRIGHT Accelerator.

SAHMRI is deeply grateful to the many hundreds of supporters who took part in the walk and engaged their networks to raise money, to the legion of volunteers who made Saturday night’s event so successful and to our major sponsors Insurance Advisernet and ANZ Community Fundraising whose generosity set the example for others to follow.
