The Wardliparingga Aboriginal Health Equity Theme (AHE) at SAHMRI is a leading national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led unit dedicated to wellbeing and achieving health equity among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia through quality and safe health and medical research.

An exceptional opportunity now exists for an experienced Personal Assistant to join the Wardliparingga Aboriginal Health Equity theme at SAHMRI, supporting the themes Co-Leaders. This dynamic role will involve working closely with the Co-Leads to assist and support them in achieving their priorities through the provision of highly organised secretarial and administrative support.

This position will be offered as a 12-month role initially, with view to extend.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Confidential and professional diary management
  • Effective maintenance of email communication
  • Meeting coordination and preparation
  • Produce meeting documentation as required – agendas and minutes
  • Proactively monitor approaching deadlines and follow up action items
  • CV, bio and profile maintenance
  • Generation of professional documentation in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Coordination of travel
  • Credit card reconciliations
  • Assist with management of projects overseen by the Co-Leaders


About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Qualifications in Business Studies / Administration is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal organisations and/or people is essential. Working in a research environment or exposure to research is essential.
  • Demonstrated success in managing senior executives within similar organisation.
  • Proficient with using Microsoft office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams and SharePoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Extensive administration experience, including day-to-day financial and record keeping procedures.
  • High level of initiative, integrity and work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Highly organised and methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Demonstrated high levels of collaboration with diverse partners and roles
