An exciting opportunity is now available for a Database and Systems Administrator to join SAHMRI, supporting the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant (ANZDATA) Registry and Australia and New Zealand Organ Donation (ANZOD) Registry. This position is an integral member of both the registry and ICT team and is responsible for ensuring effective operation and maintenance of a suite of clinical quality registries within the SAHMRI registry information system. This position will focus on leading the design, implementation and maintenance of several large-scale application databases of the Registries.

Under the direction of the Registry General Manager, the position will manage the registry systems, data, security and accessibility, and reporting and data output.

We are seeking applicants with excellent communication skills who are able to consult with a wide range of staff and stakeholders to analyse requirements and implement appropriate solutions.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Interacting with ANZDATA statistical and administration teams for data querying, extractions, data locks, supporting data quality management processes and other core activities for ongoing registry operations.
  • Managing databases and data systems, including updates, maintenance, data integrity, data linkage and reconciliation.
  • Develop and provide a range of system and reporting solutions to the Registry for the broader projects of data collection, service planning, quality improvement and research initiatives conducted by the Registry.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of registry data systems and services using Structured Query Language (SQL), and other languages as required.
  • Work within a well-defined database development process, using defined tools for database configuration management.
  • Consult with application developers to plan and direct the design, implementation and maintenance of large-scale application databases and electronic data systems, ensuring the integrity, security and accessibility of clinical and research data.
  • Maintaining a work plan and engagement with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring updated documentation management and ongoing clinical quality reporting is delivered.
  • Play a key role in analysis, design, implementation, testing and change management efforts for new registry databases and changes to existing databases.
  • Liaise with members of the ICT and ANZDATA teams as well as members of the broader community to assist in the definition and refinement of requirements.

 About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position is desired
  • Relational database design and development using Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Development of reports using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Advanced programming experience in SQL to access data.
  • Experience with HTML and Java Script.
  • Ability to understand an existing codebase and write meaningful unit level tests and documentation to improve overall code quality and supportability.
  • Interpretation and analysis of data.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of staff including both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Able to identify, analyse and creatively solve business problems into cost-effective and practical outcomes.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Must be able to work independently as the only technical resource on a project, and in a team environment with other non-technical resources.
  • Proven experience in implementing and supporting software solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction and with limited supervision/independently
  • Exposure to medical / clinical research would be advantageous but is not mandatory.
