SAHMRI support the Uluru Statement from the Heart

The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) stands for a united Australia and a better future for all by supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

SAHMRI acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the first peoples of Australia and the longest continuous living culture in the world. We recognise the injustices of the past and that Aboriginal people do not experience the same equality of rights and life expectancy as other Australians. We respect the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the face of adversity.

uluru statement

This year’s NAIDOC Week Theme, ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth.’, addresses three key elements to the reform set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The SAHMRI community is proud to have formalised a response supporting the Uluru Statement:

The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) Community stands side-by-side with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in support of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

We hear your call for constitutional and legislative reform to enshrine a First Nations Voice in the Australian Constitution and for the establishment of a Makarrata Commission to lead agreement-making and truth-telling between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and governments.

We at SAHMRI are united for a better future for all Australians. We are committed to listening, learning and shaping that future together.

SAHMRI has an ongoing commitment to Reconciliation. We encourage Federal bipartisan support of the full intent of the statement.
