SAHMRI's research utilising Medical Imaging
Medical Imaging

To accurately diagnose, monitor and treat disease it is essential to be able to see what is happening inside the body. Preclinical imaging of animal models is another essential part of health and medical research at the discovery phase and to validate theories before they can progress to human clinical trials.

SAHMRI’s research relies on a variety of imaging technologies including x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI and PET scanning at the co-located Clinical and Research Imaging Centre and small, medium and large animal scanning at the Preclinical, Imaging and Research Laboratories site at Gilles Plains. The Molecular Imaging and Therapy Research Unit at SAHMRI also produces daily doses of radiopharmaceuticals which are essential for clinical and research imaging.
