    Professor Stan Gronthos

I am a cell biologist with over 30 years experience in the stem cell and musculoskeletal fields and is a pioneer in the isolation, purification and application of mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow, adipose and dental tissues. My laboratory is focused on identifying epigenetic/ transcriptional factors and signalling pathways that mediate MSC self-renewal, niche maintenance, growth, migration, immunomodulation and multi-differentiation. My research activities have resulted in several highly cited seminal publications with 226 peer-reviewed publications including book chapters/reviews with over 46,950 citations and a h-index of 84 (Google Scholar). I have had 70 invitations to present my research as orals at national and international conferences that have included Society or Institutional financial support. My work in collaboration with Prof Andrew Zannettino has generated 12 stem cell related patents which were used to establish Mesoblast Ltd in 2004, currently supporting multiple FDA approved allogeneic MSC Phase II/ III Human Clinical Trials using our stem cell technology (spinal fusion, fracture repair, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, immunotherapy).
