Dr Marlie Frank

Dr Marlie Frank is a Kaurna/Yorta Yorta woman who joined SAHMRI in October last year as the Indigenous Genomics Research Coordinator, a joint position between Wardliparingga and the South Australian Genomics Centre. Marlie has been involved in genomics research for almost a decade, starting her career as a research assistant for the Australian Collaborative Cerebral Palsy Research Group investigating the genetics of cerebral palsy. She then moved to London to do her PhD, studying how the environment interacts with the genome during embryonic development, before coming home to Adelaide and working on a project looking at the genetics of stillbirth and miscarriage at SA Pathology. Marlie always wanted to be able to use her background in genomics to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities which led her to Wardliparingga.
