Joanna Caruso

Joanna Caruso has honours in Psychological Science from The University of Adelaide, and has been working in research and evaluation within the Health Policy Centre at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), since 2018.

Joanna has extensive experience working with population survey data and conducting social marketing evaluations at state and federal in Alcohol and Tobacco Control, including as the National Coordinator on the evaluation of the ‘Every Moment Matters’ National Awareness Campaign on Alcohol, Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), from 2020-2024. As part of the FASD campaign evaluation, Joanna collaborated with Aboriginal colleagues to facilitate evaluation of the Strong Born Campaign.

Joanna is an expert in social marketing evaluation design and analysis, tailoring reports and strategic advice, and responding to requests from government (State and federal) and non-government organisations. Joanna has a wealth of experience in research and evaluation in health policy accumulated from her years working within Health Policy Centre, including, research on alcohol policy and social marketing, tobacco control policy and social marketing, consumer and community consultation and involvement in research, and psychosocial outcomes for cancer patients.

She has presented to national and international audiences, has 7 peer reviewed publications, and is currently undertaking a PhD in Alcohol social marketing.
