Andrew Shoubridge is a neurobiologist striving to uncover the hidden causes of neurodegeneration. He was awarded his PhD in 2021 from the University of Adelaide (Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence) on neuronal morphology, function, and regulation in paediatric neurodegeneration. He then positioned himself across both the neuro and microbiology fields to focus on the rapidly growing area of microbiome-gut-brain interactions and healthy ageing.
As an early career Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and Lecturer at Flinders University in the fields of microbiology and neurobiology, he utilises microbial sequencing, mass spectrometry, immunoassays, and bioinformatic techniques across preclinical models and clinical studies to determine how changes to the gut microbiome early in life might be driving neurological decline later in life.
Andrew is also passionate about the general health of older adults in aged care and actively develops strategies, including on preventive intervention and healthy policy guidelines, that improve the quality of living in aged care.
