We are seeking a Lead Radiochemist – Quality Control (QC) to manage QC operations within the Molecular Imaging and Therapy Research Unit (MITRU), ensuring compliance with GMP and PIC/s standards. This role combines leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight to maintain the highest quality standards in radiopharmaceutical production.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead QC operations, ensuring compliance with GMP, TGA, EPA and radiation safety legislation.
  • Oversee test method validation, and performance qualification and validation of equipment
  • Perform and review analytical testing, stability studies and batch documentation to support product release.
  • Manage QC materials, inventory, raw material testing and contingency planning for equipment downtime.
  • Maintain accurate QC records, data trending and contribute to Product Quality Reviews and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, train and mentor QC Radiochemists, and maintain QC training materials and GMP documentation.
  • Support technology transfer, special projects and collaboration with QA, APs and Operations to uphold quality systems.
  • Ensure safe QC laboratory operations, manage radioactive waste, and uphold SAHMRI’s WHS, Code of Conduct and Values

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Postgraduate qualification in chemistry, pharmacy, biological sciences, or related field
  • Prior radiochemist experience (essential)
  • Strong knowledge of GMP/GLP, analytical testing, and pharmacopeia monographs
  • Familiarity with QC equipment and radiation protection practices
  • Leadership experience and ability to train others in test methods and GMP processes
  • Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and commitment to quality
  • Commercial acumen and ability to work in a dynamic environment

Special Requirements

  • Some out of business hours work is required to ensure impact on commercial work is minimised.
  • Irregular travel interstate may be required.
  • Must be available on an on-call basis for troubleshooting if there is unexpected equipment failure.
  • Participation in annual radiation safety assessments will be required.
  • This position requires a pre-employment medical examination to determine suitability for the physical requirements of the role.
