At the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people.
We are seeking two Human Resources Business Partners to join our team, one full-time and one part-time (0.6 FTE). These roles sit within a small, collaborative, and high-performing HR team, working closely with leaders across the Institute to support effective people, leadership, and culture outcomes.
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, you will partner with leaders across SAHMRI to provide practical, balanced HR advice across employee relations, workforce planning, leadership capability, and organisational change.
You will work in a supportive HR structure that values sound judgement, professionalism, and collaboration, and that provides clear escalation points for complex or high-risk matters.
The roles are suited to experienced HR Business Partners, or senior HR Advisors ready to step into a broader partnering role in a supported environment.
About the role
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with leaders to support workforce planning, role design, and capability development
- Provide advice and support on employee and industrial relations matters, including performance, conduct and grievances, escalating complex matters as appropriate
- Support workplace investigations and disciplinary processes in collaboration with the Head of HR
- Assist leaders through organisational change, restructures, and funding transitions
- Coach leaders through people management decisions, balancing compliance, risk, and culture
- Interpret workforce and engagement data to provide practical insights
- Contribute to the development and improvement of HR policies, frameworks, and practices
About You
The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
- Experience in an HR advisory or HR Business Partner role within a complex organisation
- Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards and Modern Awards
- Experience supporting employee relations matters, including performance and conduct
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to provide balanced, practical advice
- Professionalism, discretion, and sound judgement
- Experience in a research, health, higher education, or not-for-profit environment is helpful but not essential.

Special Requirements
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Regular metropolitan travel to SAHMRI’s various worksites
