The Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) Research Centre, established in 2017, was designed to monitor the health, service utilisation, medication use, mortality, and other health specific outcomes of people receiving aged care services.

ROSA Research Centre are seeking an experienced Epidemiologist/ Research Associate to join their team, supporting high quality research centered on aged and health care services for older people. Specifically, the role will closely support a program of work measuring and evaluating the quality and safety of care delivered to individuals in the aged care settings, with a focus on medications, workforce and cross-sectoral care integration.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting high quality research with a focus on quality and safety of care in aged care, medication safety and integrated care. This includes conducting literature reviews, planning and executing of statistical analyses, and writing and dissemination of findings.
  • Facilitate the activities of federally funded projects focusing on individuals in aged care settings.
  • Working independently as well as collaboratively with ROSA team, research partners, consumer representatives, staff and stakeholders of the research projects.
  • Conduct analyses of large datasets (>3.8 million individuals, billions of records) contained within ROSA, including aged care data, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data, Medicare Benefits Schedule data, and hospitalisation records.
  • Preparation of papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in the dissemination of research findings at appropriate conferences.
  • Monitor and report on progress against key performance indicators of funded studies.
  • Contribute and support preparing grants and applications for competitive funding in related areas.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant field with extensive relevant experience.
  • PhD in Health Services Research, Epidemiology, Geriatrics, Pharmacy, Medicine or related field highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated history of independent scientific contributions in their discipline (e.g., publications, grants, reports).
  • Excellent proficiency working with SAS, R, or Stata (with at least proficiency in one statistical software package)
  • Experience working with large datasets independently. Preferable experience working with aged care and/or health service data.
  • Excellent epidemiological and biostatistical knowledge. Including experience working with observational data, multivariable modelling, missing data, confounding/interaction issues, and survival analysis.
  • Knowledge of the aged care system or health care sector in Australia (desirable).
