SAHMRI goes virtual

SAHMRI is preparing to launch its new 360-degree virtual tour at South Australia’s largest science engagement event, Science Alive!, giving the public unprecedented digital access to the institute’s facilities and research.

Inside SAHMRI, is a self-guided experience that allows users to explore SAHMRI’s iconic building online, with more than 24 featured locations and over 50 interactive elements.

Researcher-led videos, cinematic animations and behind-the-scenes views of specialised equipment such as the cyclotron and cryogenics lab are all part of the offering.

The virtual tour has been designed to make SAHMRI’s work more accessible for all South Australians, including people in regional and remote communities, individuals with mobility challenges and neurodivergent audiences.

Content Director and Producer, Dr Ben Lewis, says the tour adds an immersive new dimension and new opportunities to engage with South Australia’s own health and medical research institute.

“We wanted to create an engaging way to experience what SAHMRI has to offer, so people can connect with the science shaping the future of health and wellbeing, no matter where they are,” he said.

“This will open SAHMRI’s doors to everyone, everywhere.”

SAHMRI will showcase the virtual tour at Science Alive!, alongside opportunities to meet scientists across key themes, including blood cancer researcher and science communicator, Dr Ilaria Pagani.

“At SAHMRI, our research is ultimately about improving lives,” Dr Pagani said.

“Translating complex science into something real and relatable is at the heart of what we do, because when people can see and understand the work, they can also feel its purpose.”

The virtual tour will be officially launched on 14 August at SAHMRI, when it will be made available worldwide through the SAHMRI website.
