Eminent national appointment for SAHMRI leader

Professor Maria Inacio, the Director of the Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) at SAHMRI, has been appointed to the Board of the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA).

The IHACPA made the announcement as part of its International Women’s Day celebrations, acknowledging the many skilled and talented women who contribute to the organisation.

Prof Inacio says she is honoured to be joining such a prestigious national body.

“Their work in advising on the efficient pricing for the aged care sector is a critical piece in the delivery of high quality care to older people and I am looking forward to working with them,“ she said.

IHACPA Board Chair David Tune welcomed Prof Inacio to the Board saying she will provide valuable insights and direction.

“Prof Inacio is an epidemiologist with expertise in population health surveillance, aged and health care services research,” he said.

“Since 2017 Prof Inacio has led the ROSA Research Centre, which includes a multidisciplinary team of over 30 researchers, dedicated to creating high quality evidence to improve the quality of care and ageing for older people.”

The IHACPA provides independent and transparent advice to the Australian Government in relation to funding for public hospitals and residential aged care services.

The IWD theme this year, Accelerate Action, emphasises the importance of taking swift and key steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.

About 70% of IHACPA’s workforce are women, working towards the authority’s vision for all Australians to have fair access to transparent, sustainable and high-quality health and aged care.

The Pricing Authority Board is made up of 50% women – leaders who inspire, guide and shape IHACPA’s work to set fair pricing and drive better outcomes.

ROSA’s vision to guide evidence-driven decision making for quality, coordinated, efficient and age-friendly services and practices to improve the outcomes experienced by those accessing aged care.
