About the role

We're seeking a strategic and collaborative Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team and provide strategic financial support (financial planning and analysis) across a diverse portfolio of research and business functions.

Reporting to the Senior Financial Planning & Reporting Manager, you'll work closely with project leaders, business unit managers and other stakeholders to deliver insights that support informed decision-making, financial sustainability and organisational success.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with project, theme and business unit leaders to provide financial insights and guidance
  • Prepare and analyse monthly financial reports, identifying trends, risks and opportunities
  • Business Analyst support for new business opportunities including cost modelling, break even analysis and related decision support activities.
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process across allocated portfolios
  • Deliver variance analysis and provide recommendations to improve performance
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial activities
  • Develop project-level budgets and forecasts in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems and reporting
  • Support policy and procedure development across the finance function
  • Provide financial modelling, analysis and ad hoc support as required
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation to enhance financial capability and understanding

About you

  • Degree qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Economics or a related discipline
  • CA or CPA qualification (or working towards completion)
  • Experience preparing and analysing financial reports
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and draw insights from data
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to translate complex financial information for non-finance audiences
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Experience working with medium-sized financial management systems
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Desirable

  • Experience within a Big 4 accounting firm or similar professional services environment
  • Experience in research, health, not-for-profit or project-based organisations

Special requirements

  • Some out of hours work may be required.
  • A current National Police Certificate will be required.
