Project Status: Commencing
Project administered by: Flinders University
We are looking for healthy newborn babies who received antibiotics in the first 28 days of life to participate in a study to see if a probiotic can improve your baby's immune system response to vaccinations.
You and your infant may be eligible if you are an adult (18+), and your baby received antibiotics in the first 28 days of life.

What's involved?
- A recruitment interview (in person or online) to determine eligibility of your infant
- If eligible, your baby will be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to receive either a probiotic or placebo* supplement. You won't know which.
- Administer the study supplement (1 per day) to your baby at home for 14 days.
- Collect 4 stool (poo) samples from your baby at home that can be mailed back to the study team by prepaid envelope.
- Have your baby receive their routine vaccinations through the study.
- Attend our clinic to have 3-4 blood samples (a teaspoon amount each time) collected from your baby over their first 12 months of life to measure their immune response.
*The same as the probiotic but without the active ingredient.
To reimburse costs associated with attending this study you will receive a payment of $300 for completing the entire study. To find out more, please contact the study team on bipstudy@sahmri.com.
