Lifetime’s dedication receives major honour

A senior SAHMRI researcher’s distinguished career has been recognised with the Perpetual Lifetime Achievement honour at the Gladys Elphick Awards.

The award celebrates Karen Glover’s lifetime dedication to improving the lives of others and contribution to the Aboriginal community, through demonstrated leadership, community spirit and her work.

Ms Glover is the Co-Leader of the Aboriginal Communities and Families Health Research Alliance (ACRA) within the SAHMRI Women and Kids theme. She is active on a variety of projects that focus on strong, healthy Indigenous communities, including being Chief Investigator on the Aboriginal Families Study which recently earned more than $3.5m funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council to undertake the third wave of its investigations.

Ms Glover is a Mein:tnk woman from southeast South Australia and also from the Wotjobaluk nation in northwest Victoria. Since joining SAHMRI in October 2016, she has also been an active member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Collective, whose work is to assist all SAHMRI staff in working effectively and respectfully toward improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.
