The PROPHECY CKD Study

Reducing the burden of chronic kidney disease in the indigenous population
The PROPHECY CKD Study
Project Status: In progress
Project administered by: Monash University

Indigenous Australians have one of, if not, the highest risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) worldwide, primarily but not exclusively due to their high risk (>40%) of diabetes.

With increasing understanding of the natural history and new treatments for diabetes associated CKD, this project provides a unique opportunity to understand the burden and the natural history of CKD and other critical co-morbidities such as cardiovascular (CV) disease and retinopathy in the Indigenous population.

This project will lead to new scientifically validated guidelines for the detection, prevention and management of CKD in the Indigenous population with an emphasis on those with diabetes.

This project is funded by the Medical Research Future Fund
