Thermo Scientific HM340E semi-automated microtome

The HM340E microtome is used to cut very fine slices of tissue (sections) from a processed, paraffin-embedded block. The thickness of these sections is set in microns, which can be adjusted to suit different protocol requirements. Once individual sections or multiple joined sections (ribbon) are obtained, they are floated in one of the supplied water baths. A microscope slide is then partially submerged in the water, raised from directly beneath a section to affix it, and dried ready for staining.
