SAHMRI and Health Partners launch community education program

The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and Health Partners health insurance have joined forces to better educate the public about some of the greatest health challenges that face our community today through a series of public events.

The program, ‘Public Lecture Series – Presented by Health Partners’, will present relevant scientific and health-related topics to the general community, with an aim to inspire open and sometimes controversial discussion of these issues.

The lectures will include presentations from a keynote speaker and a panel of experts, who are nationally and internationally renowned in their fields.

With three lectures to be presented in 2016, on the topics of Nutrition and Metabolism, Healthy Mothers, Babies and Children and Heart Health this year, the inaugural lecture will be exploring the question: ‘What, how and when to eat?’

SAHMRI’s Executive Director, Professor Steve Wesselingh, said the partnership between SAHMRI and Health Partners is a fantastic alliance.

“SAHMRI and Health Partners are both not-for-profit, South Australian organisations, that share a goal of providing improved health outcomes for the community,” Professor Wesselingh said.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with a like-minded organisation such as Health Partners, which has enabled us to provide these Public Lectures to better inform the wider community about important health issues that affect people on a daily basis.”

Health Partners Chief Executive Officer, Byron Gregory, said the collaboration is a natural fit.

“I’m excited that we are partnering with SAHMRI in a very real way that will provide South Australians with information, debate and discussion about their health and wellbeing,” Mr Gregory said.

“Health Partners is a proudly South Australian member-based health insurance provider committed to developing partnerships that benefit our members and the broader community.

“SAHMRI has become a South Australian icon already since being established and their global and national focus is a huge bonus to our communities and our members.”

The Public Lecture Series will continue in 2017, with four events scheduled throughout the year.
