The Honourable Hieu Van Le AC

The Hon. Hieu Van Le was appointed Chair of the SAHMRI Board on 21 December, 2021.

Mr Le served as the 35th Governor of South Australia from 2014 to 2021. Prior to this, he had held the position of Lieutenant Governor of South Australia since 2007.

Mr Le's professional career spanned two decades at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. He played pivotal roles as a member and Deputy Chair of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission (SAMEAC) from 1995 to 2007, later assuming the position of SAMEAC Chair from 2007 to 2014.

Throughout his Vice-Regal tenure, Mr Le served as Patron to more than 230 charitable and community organisations, including SAHMRI. Mr. Le remains deeply involved as a patron, director and honorary member of more than 20 other community and not-for-profit organisations in South Australia. Currently, he is also a member of the Australian National Maritime Museum Council.

Mr Le and his wife, Lan, arrived in Australia as the boat people refugees from Vietnam in 1977.
