Carmel Williams

Associate Professor Carmel Williams (MPH, Grad Dip Health, and Dip Teaching) has had a long career in government working as a policy entrepreneur, to address complex policy issues, navigating across sectors and systems to deliver good public policy outcomes that contribute to improved heath, wellbeing, and health equity. Carmel is a Director for the Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation (CHiAPRT), jointly based with Health Translation SA, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and the School of Public Health, University of Adelaide. The Centre works across disciplinary and sectoral boundaries to foster collaborative action between researchers and policy actors strengthening relationships, building capacity, and contributing to improved public policy and community outcomes. Carmel is the founding director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Advancing Health in All Policies Implementation, assisting countries to adopt evidence based approaches working across sectors and systems. She is a chief investigator on the NMHRC Healthy Environment and Lives (HEAL) Research Project. She has published multiple articles and book chapters in the fields of Research Translation, Health in All Policies, Social Determinants of Health and the Wellbeing Economy. She serves as Editor in Chief for the Health Promotion Journal of Australia, reviews articles for various health journals, leads community projects, and strengthens research-policy links. Carmel has been awarded full Level D academic status as Associate Professor with Flinders University and honorary status as Associate Professor with University of Adelaide and University of South Australia
