Can4Cancer supporting SAHMRI to help kids with cancer

SAHMRI’s nation-leading Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) Group is the grateful recipient of a $10,000 local grant from Can4Cancer.

Can4Cancer is a collaboration between the Commonwealth Bank and Tour de Cure, bringing people from across the bank and its partners together to raise money for research into the prevention and cure of cancer. The initiative has raised almost $20m across its 10 years.

Professor David Yeung accepted the donation on behalf of his research group.

"We are so very thankful to Commonwealth Bank and Tour de Cure for this donation," he said.

"This support will enable us to perform more next-generation genomic sequencing of ALL samples from across Australia, to better identify and define mutations in pursuit of less toxic or even non-toxic treatments."

SAHMRI’s ALL Group is the National Referral Centre for genomic screening of ALL, which is a leading cause of death in children under five years old. For adolescents and young adults with ALL the therapeutic outcomes are poor, while most older adults will die of their disease.

SAHMRI is a not-for-profit institute that relies on support from generous partners like the Commonwealth Bank and Tour de Cure to drive its life-changing research.
