Registry of Senior Australians

The Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) is a unique data platform designed to improve the health and wellbeing of older Australians who have entered the aged care sector. This national resource was created from the linkage of health and aged care information for all older Australians using aged care services so that their experience, overall health profile and service use could be better understood.

This ambitious ‘big data’ project was the first large scale resource of its kind in Australia, connecting existing data silos at both the state and federal levels to reveal a more complete picture of how older people navigate the aged care and health care sectors and how this impacts their overall health outcomes and quality of life.

ROSA is based at SAHMRI and is the product of a partnership between researchers, clinicians, aged care providers, consumer representatives and consumer advocacy organisations. ROSA’s partners include SAHMRI, the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Flinders University, Silver Chain, ECH Inc, Council on the Ageing SA (COTA SA), SA NT DataLink and SA Health.

ROSA was established with the support of the South Australian Government Department for Innovation and Skills (2017-2021) and has ongoing support from the Australian Government Medical Research Future Fund and ROSA collaborating partners (2021-2024). ROSA sits under the auspices of the National Health and Medical Research Council accredited translation centre ‘Health Translation SA’.
