Dr Shyam Muthuramalingam

Dr Muthuramalingam is a consumer advocate and a renal transplant recipient with lived experience of Haemodialysis (HD) and kidney disease. Dr Muthuramalingam is currently working as a consumer engagement officer for Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA), based at SAHMRI in Adelaide, South Australia and is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of its consumer engagement strategy. Shyam is making a difference in the ANZDATA annual reports to provide accessible information to the broader kidney disease community. Dr Muthuramalingam coordinates and leads the “The Network “of approximately 120 passionate kidney consumers across Australia and New Zealand. He is advancing “The Network” to bring together consumers with lived experience of kidney disease in Australia, to be involved in kidney disease research. He is creating lasting connections between researchers and consumers and provides pathways for consumers to be involved in setting research agendas, ‘doing' research, communicating results and translating them into practice to improve patient care and outcomes. Dr Muthuramalingam is striving hard to make “The Network” a one stop shop for kidney consumers to be involved in nephrology research and foster a ‘research-ready’ consumer network in Australia and enable strengthened researcher-consumer partnership.
