About the role

At the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people.

We are seeking a Radiochemist to work across a wide variety of radiopharmaceutical production and quality control pharmaceutical activities within the Molecular Imaging & Therapy Research Unit (MITRU) Operations team located at SAHMRI. The MITRU facility is home to South Australia’s only cyclotron and manufactures radiopharmaceuticals under a TGA licence. Due to the highly regulated Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment and the nature of the MITRU products, the Radiochemist will be required to reliably, efficiently and safely perform duties in strict accordance to established methods under time constraints. This position will initially be focussed in radiopharmaceutical production with further development opportunities available in other departments (Quality Control, Research, Quality assurance and Engineering etc.).

This role is open to appropriately qualified graduates, experienced radiochemists and Radiopharmaceutical Scientists. Due to the nature of the products manufactured at MITRU, this role will often require early morning starts (rotating roster) and will involve working with and around radiation and radioactive materials.

  • Preparation of the synthesis and dispensing modules.
  • Preparing reagents and consumables for radiopharmaceuticals synthesis.
  • Reliably delivering high quality radiopharmaceuticals within tight clinical supply timeframes.
  • Training on production equipment and associated systems will be provided to operate and perform basic trouble shooting.
  • Operating the cyclotron for isotope production and/or performing quality control on radiopharmaceuticals will be offered if required.
  • Tracking of materials used in production processes and assist to maintain stock levels to allow continuity of manufacture.

About YOU

  • Diploma or Degree in chemistry, pharmacy, biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Experience and knowledge in analytical methodology (chemical and microbiological), GMP, and Fluorine-18 based synthesis would be advantageous.
  • A good understanding of Pharmacopeia monographs.
  • Practical synthetic chemistry skills and techniques.
  • High attention to detail and skilled in process improvement and technical evaluations.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Highly committed to quality and safety.
