Full-Time, 2-Year Contract

At the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people.

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Corporate Account to join SAHMRI, supporting the Finance team in the management of financial operations across the institute. This position will play an integral role in supporting the Finance Leadership team to maintain professional finance and accounting functions across a variety of research and operational departments within SAHMRI.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop an understanding of all areas of SAHMRI’s business and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, and the preparation and / or review of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Responsibility for the preparation of all payroll-related journals, with a view to review and update the process for efficiencies where possible
  • Preparation of the tax reporting obligations of the company
  • Assist with project budgeting, accounting support and ad-hoc reporting for all business units within the organisation.
  • Maintain the organisation’s asset register
  • Liaise with the organisation’s banks, auditors, and other consultants where required
  • As a member of the Finance Team assist with SAHMRI’s Annual Report and any other statutory, management and financial reports as required.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • An appropriate degree in Accounting, Commerce or Economics
  • CPA/CA qualified or working towards qualification
  • Have 5 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Have intermediate spread sheet skills and experience using medium-sized financial information systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders as a trusted advisor who is able to enhance finance acumen across the organisation
  • Ability to work productively within a team environment
  • Be able to work with independently with limited supervision
  • Understanding of accounting requirements of not-for-profit entities an advantage
