We are seeking a Biostatistician, Registry Science, to provide expert statistical support to the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR), which captures comprehensive data on all arthroplasty procedures undertaken across Australia.

Reporting to the Lead Senior Biostatistican, this role will collaborate closely with SAHMRI biostatiscticans and data managers, as well as the Senior Manager and staff within the AOA.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the management of data collected through the registry and the preparation of routine reports
  • Participate in and contribute to ongoing research projects and clinical studies.
  • Contribute to the design, development and application of statistical methods.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, biostatisticians, data managers, and researchers.
  • Assist stakeholders and researchers in the preparation of written reports and manuscripts for publication.
  • Keep abreast of and apply new statistical methods.
  • Participate in special projects to continuously improve processes.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Essential: Relevant honours degree or equivalent in statistics or biostatistics
  • Desirable: Postgraduate research degree (master’s or PhD or equivalent) or relevant work experience in a similar role
  • In-depth understanding of biostatistics concepts including clinical design and the theory of statistical modelling
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in statistical analysis of research data (survival, linear mixed models and analysis of longitudinal data)
  • Knowledge of and experience in programming using statistical software programs such as SAS, STATA or R
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to interpret and explain results of statistical analyses to others
  • Familiarity and experience in a health-related environment with large-scale observational databases
  • Understanding of data management and cleaning principles for large scale clinical research
  • Ability to build relationships and establish rapport within a team environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills to complete work within required timeframes
