We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Asset Officer to join our Research and Facilities Services team. This key role is responsible for the ongoing management and optimisation of SAHMRI’s asset data, including but not limited to fixed, IT, and scientific assets.

As our new Asset Officer, you will oversee the Asset Inventory Management System, ensuring it runs smoothly, efficiently, and accurately. You’ll be analysing data, generating reports, and providing advice and training to staff throughout the institute.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage, maintain, and update the Asset Inventory Management System to ensure accurate and comprehensive asset data.
  • Provide advice and guidance to business units across SAHMRI on the effective management of both existing and newly acquired assets.
  • Lead reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the performance of the asset management program.
  • Support system users through training, troubleshooting, and ongoing communication.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders including research and operational staff, as well as external service providers and system vendors.
  • Collaborate closely with the Research Infrastructure Manager to align asset management practices with organisational goals.
  • Work with stakeholders across the organisation to achieve quality/compliance outcomes in relation to assets.
  • Engage regularly with Corporate Service teams to ensure that financial modelling, asset capitalisation, reporting and asset audit requirements are aligned.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Relevant experience in asset management or tertiary qualifications in a related discipline is desirable.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is desirable (preferably within a Research environment).
  • A strong working knowledge and understanding of asset management principles and practices.
  • Experience in the use of corporate asset management systems.
  • Ability to review processes and procedures applied to improve service delivery.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge in the use of database applications.
  • Systems thinker with good attention to detail and able to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective solutions to identified gaps.

Special Requirements

  • Some out of hours’ work may be required.
  • Travel to other SAHMRI sites may be required.
